Welcome to the Theodore G. White Library at Burt Elementary School. As we approach the end of school and summer vacation, please keep up your reading! The Public Library has their Summer Reading Program to help keep students reading throughout the summer. The Learning Center has a whole AR program, providing tests and prizes over the summer! Burt’s Battle of the Books team successfully competed in the District Battle of the Books on May 1st. Congratulations to all those who read the VSBA “Battle” Books and improved their reading and comprehension, and especially those who made the Team!

Our Book Fair starts Thursday, March 14th and runs through Friday morning, March 22nd. We will also be open Tuesday night, March 19th for Family Reading Night and Thursday afternoon before STEM night at St. Bethlehem.
Classes will shop the Book Fair during their Library Specials time. Parent are welcome to come in and shop with your child anytime! You can also shop our Book Fair Online! Just click here to order, and the books will be shipped to the school.

Snacks
Friday was the end of the 3rd Nine Weeks, and that means Accelerated Reader Celebration for those who met their AR Goal. Sixty-two students had snack and game time in the gym Friday afternoon to celebrate their reading accomplishments!
Our 4th Nine Weeks kicks off today with new AR goals and reading ranges. The AR Celebration for those meeting their goals will be on Monday May 13th. We’ll have ice cream outside!

Ebooks have advantages: They don’t get lost, you can access them outside of school, lots of people can use them at once, and they can read TO you. All Burt Tigers have access to these eBooks:

Our January Battle of the Books Lunch Bunch is fast approaching! The Lunch is on Wednesday, Jan. 23, and the last day to take an AR quiz to qualify for it is Tuesday the 22nd (right after MLK Day!). Our February Lunch Bunch will meet on Feb. 26.

Accelerated Reader for our 3rd Nine Weeks is underway! The Goals and Reading Ranges are the same as last nine weeks. If students do not know what their goals are, they should check with Mrs. Luck. The AR Celebration for all students who meet their AR Goal will be a “Game Party” (students bring their favorite game) on Wednesday, March 20 at 2:30. Let’s read, Tigers!
This week, we have our first Battle of the Books Lunch Bunch. On Wednesday, 11/28, we’ll meet to discuss the first 4 books that are part of the VSBA (Volunteer State Book Awards) Battle of the Books. To come to the Lunch Bunch, students must read one of the 4 books and pass the AR quiz on it.
